Sometimes H-Game artists think they can make a very similar design to existing characters since their games are not so well known to the masses. I remember another eroge that had Haruhi,Mikuru and Yuki lookalikes with similar names.

honestly there arent very many characters that change hair colors, from black to red specifically.

if you want to get even more technical, tsundere is a personality trait they share (for which i have no idea if that girl from ExE has.) ontop of the changing hair colors (that is fairly rare in standard anime) you've already got a strong connection between the two.

sure akiha's abilities may not be fire-based, however that is only realized by going beyond the general media for tsukihime (meaning you had to have played the game to know that.) normally one would assume akiha was fire based because her red hair's look and act like fire in melty blood. (which is finally gaining popularity, hopefully ill be able to find it in more than just one arcade :3 )

its pretty obvious that most of the things you listed are key elements of shana.

-tsundere
-flat chest
-fire(like) power

however
shana has
-sword wielding
-a fetish for melon bread

i mean seriously. akiha is probably closer of a comparison to shana than this female from ExE. atleast her hair is permanently red.

although i could be grasping on strings, akiha is closer to an average girl, while shana is classified as a lolicon. (saying otherwise is denial)

No one could, with a reasonable amount of knowledge in the matter, call Shana any kind of 'clone' of Tohno Akiha, but there are still very strong similarities there. Is it really that surprising? Type-Moon isn't exactly the most modest franchise in existence, and if you're making an anime with an eternal loli as your focus (Shana) you probably are gonna draw some of your inspirations from past loli-esque girls (and while Akiha isn't loli, she's as close as main Tsukihime characters get - bar Ren)...

In general terms, there are other girls that are flat chest, tsundere and minus the change color hair e.g. Louise (Zero no Tsukaima), Suisei Seki etc.

Its just Shana and Akiha have the most similar traits, thats usually why they are compared so often.

But that ends there, Shana has a strong commitment of being a sword-weilding, Melon Pan lovin' Flame Haze despite not having a personal vendetta against them and Akiha is a rich, well established, snobby girl that longs for her nii-san's affection and has a family history of having Demon Blood. That what defines them..

People usually compare other characters by their appearance aka lookalikes, take a look at Kaze no Stigma's Ayano. She has red hair, green uniform, fire element and wields a sword... Sounds alot like Shana but going deeper Ayano is a teenager, has a larger chest and a totally different background story. That girl from ExE and Ayano are probably inspired by Shana by appearance or is it that red haired sword wielders are on the rage today?

I guess everyone has their own 'degree' of comparing characters, whether by appearance alone or beyond.

I checked about the story of ExE:

summarized and translated poorly

Mio Kifune knows the truth behind the fire at Yasaka General Hospital. So far in the samples, She doesn't seem to possess fire powers...

I don't buy the Akiha/Shana similarity. If you put down some of their characteristics as if they were some sort of data readout, then you can see same characteristics, like their hair turns red, and both are flat-chested. Outside of such superficial characteristics, both are very different.

Akiha is very much an ojou-sama like character. And she's a bro-con. Shana is none of these. And that's still distilling the characters down to simplistic, "This character is like this" statements.

Shana will never 'grow' any larger than she is now. The body of a Flame Haze does not age. Of course neither do torches, which means Yuji will never grow any larger either.

For now, there has been no info about any translation being made as far as I know. This is really sad, as ExE has a quite interesting story according to many of those who have played it (and understand japanese). I hope there will be one eventually though... and an anime would be awesome (though I doubt that'll ever happen).

And yeah... aside from looking a bit like Shana with big boobs, Mio Kifune is very different from Shana. Both her personality and her powers are way different and her voice is much darker than Shanas.

Basically, the only thing that really is similar is the hair, the colour of their clothes (the clothes look quite different though) and the fact that they both carry a katana.

Mio Kifune is awesome btw. Her name in japanese is: 貴船 未緒
